Save The Cross Lances Update
Back in 2020, when Adrian Line was the Cross Lances Pub manager, there was a big effort to save it from threatened closure, sale and redevelopment into flats. An Asset Of Community Value (ACV) status was sought and won, which protected the pub from being sold for 5 years. At this time, I wrote a comprehensive web article “Save The Cross Lances” explaining why the pub was valuable for the community and deserved saving.
Since 2020
The ACV was successfully obtained in 2020, protecting the Cross Lances until April 2026. Since 2020, Adrian Line retired and new pub manager Paul Thompson took over, maintaining the community activities introduced by Adrian. The pub closed for a couple of months during the summer of 2025, and a team of Pasa Restaurant staff carried out a light refurbishment, replacing the worn out carpet, refreshing the surfaces and fixing the plumbing in the toilets. (Pasa Restaurant is situated a few doors down from the Cross Lances Pub along the Hanworth Road and serves Nepalese style cuisine). The pub reopened in the autumn of 2025 and Paul Thompson was replaced by Wilson Maharjan, who also works at Pasa Restaurant. Under Wilson’s stewardship, the live music bands and open mic nights returned and both community and charitable activities have begun again, for example the “Beer and Carols” fund-raising community event, staged in December 2025. He also provides a limited Nepalese menu, orderable from the pub bar for pub customers and has retained the opportunity to purchase real ales, on tap.
