FEATURED MUSICIANS

1. The Watchers
   (4 mins 06 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This track was inspired by the legend of the ravens ("the watchers") in the Tower Of London (how civilisation would crumble should any of them escape) as well as the change through time of the land on which the city of London was built.

My voice & guitar, keyboards (played by myself)and drums (a tribal midi sound created by myself) is ready. The track also features Annie on flute and some haunting violin (including sounds like the watcher's cries).

2. Make It Be
   (3 mins 25 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is a bright, fast little number inspired by the destruction of the rainforests and designed to try and help people feel we can make a difference by all making a change to the way we live.

My vocal & guitar as well as Russell's drum part and violin work from Sim. It also has Joey's bass & vocal harmony (continuous on this number) as well as some lovely mandolin work from Mike Patton including a break.

3. I Want To Be There
   (4 mins 03 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This song is inspired by my love for both my son, Peter, & my husband, Clive. I actually said the first line, "I want to be there to hold your hand in case you fall", to my son. I reached out to stop him from falling over on the way to school. That's how the idea started.

My voice & guitar, Russell's drum part, a "string trio" of violin, viola & cello from Sim, a saxophone solo in the break from Annie and Joey's bass part.

4. Land Of The Free
   (4 mins 55 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This track was written to be the title track of a historical feature film, which has not yet been started, about a British heroine, who fought the Romans.

This track was recorded at Oisin Studios by Steafan Hannigan and features myself, Paula Smith, Sim, Saskia Tomkins and Steafan.

5. Eddie
   (5 mins 13 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is a happy little number about Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards; It was much more gripping watching the Olympic ski jumping knowing that he would be lucky to finish without breaking his neck. Also, he inspired people to have a go at their dream activity - even if they might not prove to be very good.

My vocals & guitar as well Russell's drum part, Sim's electric guitar part and Joey's bass & harmonies.

6. The Web
   (3 mins 26 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is a song about the tangled web we weave ourselves and relates directly to the way I felt while I was going through my marriage break up.

Russell's drumming, my vocals & guitar, Sim's electric guitar, Annie's saxophone and Joey's bass and harmonies.

7. The Child Inside
   (3 mins 44 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is inspired by remembering the "golden days of childhood". How you felt special, immortal and free. It is also about regaining those feelings and reaching for your dreams.

My vocals & guitar, Russell's drums, Sim's violin and viola parts, Mike's mandolin and Joey's bass part & harmonies.

8. Run Red
   (6 mins 07 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This was inspired (as a challenge by husband Clive Turner) by an episode of Swamp Thing called "The Curse", written by Alan Moore. A couple live in a house on the ancient site of a red indian tribe (whose women were shunned during the time of their periods - being shut, naked in towers & ignored). The woman in this house becomes affected by this previous energy & develops a hatred for men. She eventually turns into a werewolf & kills herself.

My vocals & guitar, Joey's bass and harmony vocals, Russell's drumming & Sim's double tracked electric violin playing.

9. Friends Of The Earth
   (3 mins 13 secs)

cd1.gif
Lyrics

There is a special section all about this song - see Friends Of The Earth

Russell (drums), myself (vocals & guitar), Joey (bass) & Sim (electric guitar). I have also recorded the Torriano Junior School Choir.

10. Shadows On The Road
   (3 mins 29 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This song was inspired by coming home late from a gig one night under a full moon. I was driving along the winding country lanes and thinking about the shadows on the road being like the shadow of death lurking around the corner waiting to claim you.

My vocals and guitar as well as an interesting drum interpretation, from Russell and Joey's bass and harmonies. Sim plays a lovely haunting reel on this number.

 11. Woman
   (3 mins 22 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

Incredibly, this song came directly from a dream I had about a young, beautiful woman, who was smiling & floating through the fields, ploughing them with a couple of oxen. During the dream I could hear this beautiful tune and I came to realise that she was the essential woman; daughter, sister, wife, mother representing the goddess. I remembered the tune even after two days !

This very acoustic number, with no drums or bass. Along with my vocal & guitar it has Sim's violin, Annie's flute and France Ellul's harp playing.

 12. Love Will Find A Way
   (4 mins 30 secs)

cd1.gif
Lyrics

This song was inspired by my hope that, although I could not see the "right" path for my life during the bad patch towards the end of my first marriage, love would show me the right way to go. It was a huge comfort at the time.

My vocals and guitar plus Sim's violin playing, Mike Patton's mandolin playing & Joey's bass & harmonies.

13. One More Day
   (4 mins 03 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

I wrote this one again during my marriage break - up, when I was desperately trying to hold things together in the hope that things would work out for the best.

This song has a Latin feel, with a mixture of midi drums & percussion, some "Sim Santana" guitar work, Joey's bass & harmonies & Annie's saxophone playing.

14. The Grail
   ( 6 mins 39 secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is a song which harp player & storyteller, France Ellul asked me to write especially for his album, "The Seven Harps Of Avalon". I read about accounts of the grail's appearance in King Arthur's Court & focussed on the magic of the universe being tapped from within each one of us; within our own personal grail. I set up the answer to the grail quest being revealed within a dream of the goddess

This song was recorded partly by myself (vocals & guitar) and then finished, by France & his colleagues, at Workshop Studios & Utopia Studios

15. Guinevere
(6 mins 55 secs)

cd1.gif
Lyrics

This song was inspired by a dream told me by friend Hema Pullen. Aware of my marital problems, Hema dreamt, one night, that she saw me descending the stone steps of a tower, crying. When I reached the bottom she gave me a box & told me that when the time was right I would use what was held inside. I decided to write a song which led up to & followed on from that moment. The song is filled with meanings; for example I am supposed to be Guinevere & the magic mirror,  through which I view the world reflects my inability to face the reality of my situation. The dragons represent problems which need to be overcome and the box holds the light of truth.

Russell's drums, my vocals & guitar, Annie's piccolo, Sim's electric guitar and Joey's bass. I have recorded a church organ part myself and some harp playing from France Ellul. The piece starts simply with just myself , guitar & harp and gradually builds up to a really rocky number. I see this number as my answer to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven".

16. Shine
(2mins 57secs)

cd1.gif

Lyrics

This is a song about taking chances in life, about really living and being your true self.

This track was added to the album because a number of people said they thought there should be a track on the album with just myself and guitar.
