Local churches also make use of the pub facilities, holding quiz nights and carol services, while the bar areas and beer
garden are often used for birthday parties, wedding receptions and other celebratory events, with buffet food available on
request. Due to its proximity to the SW Middlesex Crematorium, in Hanworth, and the fact it has a fairly large car park, the
pub is often used for wakes, providing mourners with the opportunity to celebrate their deceased loved one’s life.
The pub also provides free Wi Fi for locals as well as a drop off / pick up, point for online deliveries, with companies like
Amazon. In fact the pub supports the local economy by employing around 7 staff, the live music and by purchasing goods
from local suppliers and microbreweries.
Under the stewardship of Adie, his fiancee, Carol and Paul, the Cross Lances Pub has been invaluable for bringing the
community together with all their live music nights, sports teams and events, quiz nights and other special events. Special
events have included a trip to France, for a commemorative remembrance day anniversary. They have made sure the pub
can also accommodate disabled customers, with separate toilet facilities and entries in both Euan's Guide
(https://www.euansguide.com) and ‘AccessAble’, which are reference guides for disabled to share and discover accessible
places to socialise. Adie, Carol and Paul have encouraged the community to come together to fund-raise for many worthy
charities and local causes. Here is a list of the charities and causes, the Cross Lances Pub have fund-raised for over the
last few years, with the corresponding amounts raised:
There are televisions in each bar for screening sporting events, allowing locals to come together in a safe space, which is
especially valuable for the vulnerable and elderly, many of whom would not otherwise have any form of social interaction.
For the more active pub goers, Paul also runs the local Pool league, has brought in 3 darts teams, a cribbage team,
arranged various in-house competitions and a once-a-month charity quiz. On occasion he has even brought out the old
vinyl records, for the odd disco - scratches and all! There is a pub golf group too, which organizes events at local courses
and further afield.
