Stevie
Mitchell
Stevie first joined Kindred Spirit Band in 2016. She’s primarily a sax player but is also a super flute player and cellist, with a lovely voice. With Kindred Spirit Band, she shared the wind- player role with Catherine Cooper and performed at The Robin 2, Farncombe Music Club and Richmonds’ “On The Edge”. She also played sax, cello and sang on the 2019 “Elemental” album. Following the lockdowns, she became the band’s main wind player and has featured on all the post lockdown recordings and gigs.
Stevie started her performing life playing baritone sax in her school jazz and big bands. She gained attention as a short, 12-year old girl with a monstrous beast of a sax! “Indecisive as ever”, she says, she went on to study a joint honours in Pure Maths and Music at Cardiff University. Discovering sax wasn’t a common orchestral instrument, she took up the cello and has since played in many orchestral concerts. In 2025, Stevie acquired an electric cello and now plays it, along with some cool effects, at Kindred Spirit Band gigs. Befor joining Kindred Spirit Band, she joined the late ska / funk / reggae, S London-based band “The Skanx” on bari sax and flute. She now teaches Maths at a secondary school. She doesn’t like to talk about it!
