Song 1 - House Of Mirrors
We find ourselves inside a house full
of strangely shaped mirrors, which
create distorted reflections and are
disorienting. We are unable to find
the door by which we must have
arrived and our panic is rising with
growing feelings of paranoia, the
hearing of voices and conviction
that we are being followed.
Many of us have friends or family
members battling with mental health
problems. A full length, concept album is
being created, with us, the central
character being trapped inside our own
mind, dealing with our feelings of
persecution, stress and inability to know
what is real and imaginary. In our
attempts to escape from ourselves, we
make a fantastic journey within. This
takes the form of an “Alice In
Wonderland” like trip. In this dream
world, we encounter characters
with links to the real world, which might be familiar to some prog rock fans. For
example, we will meet a “Spriggan” and a “Stuckfish”. Some characters will prove
helpful and some won’t. The songs for this album were written in the sequence of
the story and they have almost been finished. You can now see the complete
story here below, along with some images, drawn by Elaine. You will also be able
to hear some live versions of the songs, as we are playing some at gigs.
Elaine has been researching
mental health conditions and
reading autobiographies of
sufferers who describe their
difficult journey from the inside
and how they managed to
eventually recover. It is hoped
that those suffering with, or
caring for someone suffering
with, mental health issues might
both enjoy, as well as find some
comfort and useful insight, from
listening to “The Journey Within”.
